In an attempt to explore Chinese influence around the world and spot the most well-known Chinese enterprises, people and cities, the Global Times began researching in January with the aim to compile a list. The results to date were released recently in Beijing.
The election was screened and calculated through a joint effort involving information from abroad provided by the Global Poll Center, recommendations from domestic and international experts, and sample surveys from abroad.
The Global Times’ List 2011 includes the Most Globally-known Chinese Enterprises, the Most Globally-known Chinese Figures, and the Most Globally-known Chinese Cities.
The Most Globally-known Chinese Enterprises are: China National Offshore Oil Corporation, China Mobile Communications Corporation, Huawei Technologies, Legend Holdings, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Haier, China National Petroleum Corporation, China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company, China National Aviation Holding Company, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation.
The Most Globally-known Chinese Figures are: Li Shufu, chairman of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, Wang Jianlin, chairman of Dalian Wand, Huang Ming, chairman of China Himin Solar Company, Liang Wengen, chairman of Sany Heavy Industry Company, Yang Jianzhong, chairman of China Juli Group, Jack Ma, chairman and chief executive of Alibaba Group, Hong Kong movie star Jackie Chan, star basketball player Yao Ming, tennis star Li Na and action film star Jet Li.
The Most Globally-known Chinese Cities are: Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Macau, Shenzhen, Taipei, Chengdu, Chongqing and Tianjin.
The Most Globally-known Cultural Figures, Most Globally-known Chinese Green Enterprises and the Most Globally-known tourist destinations in Central-western China were also chosen.
The Most Globally-known Cultural Figures are: Han Meilin, Lu Jia, Lang Lang, Zhang Yimou and Fan Bingbing.
The Most Globally-known Chinese Green Enterprises are: Modern Farming (Group), BYD Company, Midea Group, Hisense Group and Shenhua Group Corporation.
The Most Globally-known tourist destinations in Central-western China are: Xi’an, Guilin, Kunming, Lhasa, Lanzhou, Luoyang, Chengdu, Wuhan, Datong and Nanning.
The Global Times’ List 2011 was launched by Long Yongtu, former secretary-general of the Boao Forum for Asia, Yao Jingyuan, chief economist of the National Bureau of Statistics, and Hu Xijin, editor-in-chief of the Global Times.
