On Monday, the first report on the employment of disabled people was released. According to the report, the total number of disabled people of employment age is to 32 million, and 70% of them have the ability to work, while the employment rate and the average wages are only about half of healthy people’s. During the poor people without adequate food and clothing, 42% is disabled people.
The report was published by 1203.job1001.com, a non-governmental charity organization to promote the employment of disabled people. The study on employment of disabled people was affirmed by Xie Hongde, deputy director of the Education and Employment Bureau of China Disabled Person’s Federation. Xie said that the employment for the disabled in definite proportion, at present, still faced a serious challenge.
The relevant law on the protection of disabled people provides that the state organs, social organizations, enterprises, institutions and private non-enterprise units should be subject to a ratio of employment for disabled people, and select appropriate jobs for them. The regulation on employment of disabled people in 2007 also provides that the proportion of disabled people in the employees shall not be less than 1.5%.
