TEHRAN – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has said that the hands of the United States and the Zionist regime can be seen behind the developments unfolding in Syria.
The Leader made the remarks in an address to a number of government officials and thousands of people from different walks of life during a meeting held in Tehran on Thursday to commemorate Be’that, which is the auspicious anniversary of the appointment of Hazrat Muhammad (S) to prophethood.
“The Islamic awakening occurring in regional countries is anti-U.S. and anti-Zionist in nature, but the hands of the United States and Israel are evident in the developments in Syria,” the Leader stated.
And in the view of the Iranian nation, “wherever slogans are being chanted in favor of the United States or Zionism, a deviant current is at work,” he added.
The Iranian nation will support every movement against the U.S. and Zionism and will back up every nation that rises up against U.S. global hegemony and the dictators ruling those countries, the Leader said.
He also stated, “The Americans are making endeavors to replicate the events in Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, and Libya in Syria, with the aim of creating problems for a country which following the line of resistance. But the nature of developments in Syria is different than the nature of developments in other regional countries.”
“The great Islamic awakening in Egypt, Tunisia, and other countries shows that the unfair and humiliating equations that the hegemonistic Westerners and their subservient dictators have imposed on regional nations over the past 150 years have been disturbed, and a new page has been turned in the history of the region,” the Leader stated.
“The Americans and the Zionists, together with their mercenaries and their allies in the region, are using all of their capacities to derail the great movement of nations and restore the previous unjust equations through bringing to power subservient elements,” he said.
However, the great nation of Iran and other Muslim nations will remain vigilant and will not allow the Americans and the Zionists to divert the current of Islamic awakening from the right path, the Leader stated.
He also expressed hope that the current movement in the region would continue at full strength.
