Top political advisor stresses agricultural modernization in visit to Jilin

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks during an inspection tour that lasted from last Friday to Wednesday this week.

Jia visited farms, corporate headquarters, rural communities and high-tech industrial parks across the province during his trip.

During his visit, Jia urged the province to boost its construction of agricultural infrastructure and water conservancy projects.

Jilin should work to stabilize its grain production and boost market-based agricultural production in general, said Jia, who is also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Jia also called on Jilin to develop new industries and upgrade its existing ones in order to create a modern industrial system that will feature clean, technology-intensive enterprises.

Jia said that priority should be given to developing the province’s small- and medium-sized towns in order to promote urbanization.

While visiting urban communities, Jia said greater efforts should be made to advance social programs such as health care, education and social security, and to promote equal access to basic public services.

Additionally, Jia called for efforts to address issues that have a direct bearing on the interests of ethnic minority groups in order to allow those groups to enjoy the benefits of development. Jilin is home to many ethnic Koreans.
