Syrian unrest is increasing in many cities. Some of the new developments are virtually unparalleled. The unrest is extensively damaging to the Arab world and it. Protests have hit Damascus where President Bashar Assad lives, Aleppo, Latakia, Homa, Hama, and Dara’a.
According to AmnestyInternational, so far 55 people were killed in Dara’a last week in the demonstrations. Also, the report revealed that about 15 people were killed in Sanamein near Dara’a. In other cities, Damascus and Latakia, 2 or 3 people were reportedly killed.
An Israeli newspaper revealed that the reasons of last week’s demonstrations in Syria are not clear entirely as in countries like Egypt, Tunisia., and Benghazi in Libya. The circumstances were different. The protestors in Syria’s cities are protesting against the recent death of Dara’a rather than the demand to remove Assad’s government as we have observed in the other Arab countries. But the BBC report said that dozens of Syrian people have been killed in protests against the rule of President Bashar al-Assad.
According to the report, Syrian security forces faced a tough time dealing with protestors last week. The Syrian government has confirmed 12 people dead during the protests and 200 people got hurt in Latakia.
The spokeswoman for the president, Buthaina Shaaban said that President Assad will address people very soon.
The spokeswoman also said that the emergency laws restrict public gatherings and authorize the arrest of “suspects or persons who threaten security.” However, she said that any individual can be interrogated and surveillance is authorized on personal communication. Also, earlier Ms. Shaaban said that the authorities intended to put constitutional and party changes before the people in a referendum as soon as possible.
