Russia: No nuclear threat from Japan

Russian, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, said the threat of a global nuclear disaster is minimal as Japan scrambles to avert a meltdown at its fukushima facilities.

Putin said experts believed the chances of the stricken reactor exploding, and spewing toxic radioactive dust into the atmosphere, were low.

So radiation levels in Russia’s Far East, are within normal levels, according to local monitoring stations.

Putin, said Russia isn’t going to change their nuclear ambitious to build dozens of power plants over the next decades. President Medvedev also ordered officials to increase energy supplies to Japan.
