A Shanghai man stood trial on Tuesday for allegedly killing a cab driver in New Zealand last year.

Xiao Zhen, 25, is suspected of having stabbed the driver after a quarrel in Auckland on January 31 last year while he was a student there, according to a written statement issued by the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court.

Driver Hiren Mohini died after being stabbed in his heart, the statement said.

Xiao left New Zealand for Shanghai the following month and was caught by police in June last year in Baoshan district.
