Hexavalent chromium was detected to exceed standard in Yunnan

According to Pearl River Water Resources Commission (PRWRC) of the Ministry of Water Resource, chromium pollution incident caused by illegal dumping is a serious impact on drinking safety for human and animals.

Hexavalent chromium was detected out of standard around the chromium slag heap field of Luliang chemical industry company, due to leakage and other reasons.

In addition, Qujiang Municipal Government Information Office said that the investigation team of the Ministry of Environmental Protection has arrived Qujing at August 18. The team will further investigate the chromium pollution.

It is reported that the purpose of PRWRC’ investigation is to assess the safety of drinking water for people and animals, as well as the impact on the quality of Nanpan River and the downstream water. According to the survey, for the area of chromium pollution, this year is the severe drought year in 50 years, so that water security and water conservation are very important. But due to a small amount of rain, the chromium was washed into nearby river, resulting in some animals died after drinking the toxic water.
