Gaddafi makes public appearance in bombed compound

Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi late Tuesday made a public appearance before a crowd of supporters at his residence compound near the Libyan capital of Tripoli, state TV showed .

The compound, located in Bab Al-Aziziya, was struck by a cruise missile in Sunday night’s bombing by Western forces.

The TV footage showed Gadhafi standing on a balcony and making a short address to his supporters. “Be it long or short, we’ll beat them,” he said.

France, U.S. agree on NATO role in military operation in Libya

PARIS, March 22 (Xinhua) — French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama have agreed on how to use the command structure of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization ( NATO) to support the military operation in Libya, the Elysee Palace said on Tuesday.

The two leaders exchanged ideas over the Libya situation in a telephone call from President Obama, Sarkozy’s office said in a brief statement.    Full story.
