China’s inflation hits a three-year high of more than 6 percent, according to official data released on Saturday. The Customer Price Index (CPI), a key gauge of inflation, rose by 6.4 percent year-on-year in June, the highest level since June 2008, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced in a statement last Saturday. Food prices, which account for nearly a third of the basket of goods in the nation’s CPI calculation, jumped 14.4 percent in June from the same month last year, a pace faster than May’s 11.7 percent, according to the NBS.
