5.8-magnitude earthquake hit Kashgar, injured 21 people

According to authority, up to 11:00 a.m., August 12, it was informed that 5.8-magnitude earthquake, occurred in Kashgar area and Kizilsu Kirghiz Autonomous Prefecture in August 11, has lead to 21 people injured in Peyzawat County (Jiashi County), including 4 seriously injured, local 147 houses collapsed and 171 houses become dangerous.

There were obvious seismaesthesia in Artux when the earthquake attacked. According to preliminary statistics, the earthquake caused about 10 houses damaged, 11 farmers and herdsmen’s sheepfold wall collapsed, up to 11 a.m. on August 12. Recently, there has been no report of casualties.

After the earthquake, local governments immediately sent more than 300 people from police, armed police, People’s Liberation Army and civil affairs departments to the disaster areas to rescue. The rescue workers set up tents overnight and placed the affected people. The injured people were sent to local hospital for treatments. Some minor injuries have been discharged on Friday morning.

The official of Kashi Prefectural office said that the epicenter was near to Jiashi County, which is about 200 km from Kashi Ctiy.
