Mexico: Spring welcomed with balloon festival

Crowds of people, gathered near Mexico City, while hot air balloons took to the sky, in a celebration, to mark the official arrival of a new season.

That’s right Sunday set off the vernal equinox, and astrological spring for the northern hemisphere. As the hot air balloons floated over the ancient site, people queued to climb the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan.

The archaeological site was built between the 1st and 7th centuries A.D and is characterized by the vast size of its monuments – in particular, the Temple and the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon which are laid out in geometric and symbolic principles.
