The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has written a letter to the People of the United States, in which he warns of the threats and plans of Donald Trump’s Administration against the Latin American country amidst the global expansion of Covid-19.
While the world focuses on dealing with the COVID-19 emergency, the Trump Administration, once again instrumentalizing institutions in order to fulfill electoral objectives, and based on infamies under the pretext of the War on Drugs, has ordered the largest U.S. military deployment in our region in the last 30 years, with the purpose of threatening Venezuela and bringing to our region a costly, bloody, military conflict of unknow duration,” states the letter which was read by the Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Relations, Jorge Arreaza, at the Casa Amarilla Antonio José de Sucre, in Caracas.
As a precedent, the dignitary states in his letter, the Trump Administration presented without any evidence, accusations of drug trafficking towards the United States against him and other senior Venezuelan State officials.
It is clear that the Trump Administration is building a smoke screen to hide the improvised and erratic handling of the pandemic in the United States,” he warned.
President Maduro, therefore, call on the people of the United States to
put a stop to this madness, to hold your officials accountable and to force them to focus their attention and their resources on urgently addressing the pandemic.”
